She‘s coming with a powerful, soul-shifting voice in tow.  Alice Smith exudes a worldly wisdom in her second LP She, set for a March 19th release.  Her sound is fiercely and unabashedly her own.  Pay special attention to the no-nonsense track “The One” (“don’t play me, son!) and her dope ass cover of Cee-lo’s “Fool For You.”  Check out the full stream of the LP below, then go and pre-order She!

A few nights ago, I had the pleasure of experiencing an intense soul session that completely satiated my rhythmic thirst.  Chicago native Jesse Boykins III (an Audio Gumbo favorite) touched down in Atlanta at The Five Spot and shared his “Romantic Movement” and his glorious ‘fro with his adoring listeners.  His opening acts included Micah Freeman and Gilles, whom I, unfortunately, missed out on but word is, both gentleman threw down.  I’ll be checking them out.  Another opener was the dope ass band Bosco.  Led by the funky fresh Brittany Bosco, ATL’s finest served up tunes with their last show of 2012.  Brittany B. killed with her rendition of Ralph Tresvant’s “Sensitivity,” completely transforming it into a soulful, rock joint.

…And another one.  This time Robert Glasper is joined by everyone’s favorite DJ/drummer/producer/music aficionado Questlove.  Accompanied by The Roots and the sultry voice of Solange, “Twice,” a Little Dragon cover, is 9 minutes of passion and vitality.  I’m getting more excited with every share from Black Radio Recovered: The Remix EP.  Make sure you cop that on Oct. 9.

It’s been a while, but Solange Knowles has returned with a new jam, “Losing You.”  Filmed in Cape Town, South Africa, the fierce fashionista frolics with her equally stylish cohorts, all while musing over a seemingly lost love.  The video and the song lyrics are quite contradictory (or maybe not).  The lyrics bemoan the struggles of a floundering relationship while the video is bright, playful, celebratory and perhaps, even mocking.  And the clothes!  Solange and company are styled, head to toe, in beautiful wares.  On filming “Losing You,” Solange tells Pitchfork:

When Melina [Matsoukas] and I decided to film ‘Losing You’ in South Africa, we really didn’t have a real firm concept in place. It was sort of a grab a camera and let’s go moment. I knew I wanted to capture a couple things: the vibe of our friendship and all of the crazy escapades we’ve gotten ourselves into all over the world, and the abstract and elegant Le Sape Society (Society for the Advancement of People of Elegance) formed in the Congo which was documented by Daniele Tamagni in his Gentleman of Bacongo book.  We called Daniele to guide us, and some of my friends from New York came down to Cape Town and we all had a very damn good time.

Get into the very dope video after the jump.  The track is out digitally and will be released on vinyl on Nov. 6.

The good people over at BamaLoveSoul have compiled a wonderful mix featuring everyone’s favorite ankh-wearing, incense-burning, unpredictable eclectic Erykah Badu.  With submission from a diverse mix of producers and DJs, Y’all Feel That?: Erykah Badu Remixes, Flips & Covers Pt. 2 is reflective of the Analog Girl’s own  broad range of creativity and unmistakable passion.

Once again we find ourselves curating a mix of a large number of  producer’s love for one amazing artist: Erykah Badu! This mix is more than just a Badu tribute, it’s a testament of her creativity and it’s  influence on so many. We put out the call for Badu remixes, covers etc and received so many it was impossible to include them all in this mix.  The remixes reflect Erykah’s daring and dynamic, unique and always interesting track selections  with a twist. -From BamaLoveSoul

If you’re searching for a mellow, laidback groove, this is it.  Producer King I Divine returns with “Fly,” an ethereal trip on the wings of LD Henriquez’s soft, captivating vocals.  Stay tuned for his new album, Cloud 127, which will continue with the vibe of mellifluousness.

Muhsinah just dropped some new hot shit from her upcoming free EP Dear____.  “Goodbye,” written, composed, arranged and produced by Muhsinah, encompasses her usual sensual vocals and a funky-electro, supernatural vibe.  It’s a very cool kiss-off song.

If you want her to drop the EP immejiately (as in now), make sure you “like” her on Facebook via Team Sinah Downloads.

Phonte, along with the talented Carlitta Durand, drops his new video for “Gonna Be a Beautiful Night,” one of my favorite joints from Charity Starts at HomeThe visuals of interlocking fingers, chivalry, deep eye contact, and intimately placed hands are date night personified.  Featuring jewelry designer Rachel Stewart and her beau, the video evokes such romantic feelings, it’s impossible not to love every minute of it.

This is one of my favorite songs of the year.  Yuna’s lovely voice and affirming lyrics over a Pharrell beat is heavenly.  Throw Theophilus London in the mix and now you have a party.  Groove to the “Live Your Life” remix below.

Since Floetry’s breakup in 2006, speculations have risen about the reasons for such an unexpected dissolution of what many deemed a beautiful mesh of spoken word and soul.  The Floacist Natalie Stewart has released quite a stirring perspective on her feelings towards The Songstress Marsha Ambrosius with “Soul” from her upcoming album Floetry Re:Birth.  In the song, Stewart proclaims that Ambrosius’ dream of a mainstream career is the equivalent of “selling her soul.”  Well, damn.
